Storytime

Each library hosts fun, playful storytimes filled with music, movement, play and reading. Below are the details on when a storytime is held in your library! Storytime will be starting again the first week of October 2023.

  • In Jackson, you can attend storytime on Mondays at 10 AM.
  • In Heron Lake, there are alternating locations. You can attend storytime on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM at either the library or St. Johns in Okabena. Please check the event calendar for the week you are attending to see the location or call the library at (507)793-2641.
  • In Lakefield, you can attend storytime on Thursdays at 10 AM.

We'll sing songs, read stories, craft and have fun together. Please call ahead to register. To check for any changes due to holidays, you can go to the event calendar or contact your library.

We can't wait to see you again!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Initiative is a program that encourages families and caregivers to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten. If you read just one book a day with your child, you’ll reach 1,000 books in less than three years.

Visit the library to sign up and get a welcome book bag, an easy to use booklog and resources to help foster literacy skills. The library hosts a graduation party for those reading 1,000 books!

Board Book Collections

Is your little one more into eating books then reading them? You’re not alone! For those not quite ready for books with paper, we have a whole collection of board books built just for them. If you have trouble finding them in the children’s section, just stop at the desk and a librarian will show you where they are.
