Summer Library Program 2020

Summer may be a bit different this year, but fun is still on the agenda at the Jackson County Library System. Check it out and sign up today!

We have activity logs for all ages! Registration begins June 3 and the final day to earn prizes is August 14. Call in to register and pick up reading logs in a curbside pickup or download them here. Prizes will be available throughout the program. Call your library for pickup process information.

Infant & Toddler

Easy, fun activities to complete with your little one during the summer.

PreK-4th Grade

Complete 20 activities on the activity log to earn a prize! Earn a badge for every 5 activities. Children entering 5th grade can choose this log or the Tween log.

Tween Reading Log

For those entering grades 5-7. Keep track of your minutes reading to earn prizes! Earn a prize for every 175 minutes you read. Complete the card by reading 1050 minutes to be entered into a prize drawing!

Teen Reading Log

For those entering grades 8-12. Keep track of your minutes reading to earn prizes! Earn a prize for every 250 minutes you read. Complete the card by reading 1500 minutes to be entered into a prize drawing!

Tween & Teen BINGO

Earn even more prizes by completing activities on the Tween & Teen BINGO card! You can earn a prize for your first BINGO and for a Blackout.

Adult Bingo

Earn prizes and explore new books with our Adult BINGO card! You can earn a prize for your first BINGO and for a Blackout.

Family Bingo

Spend time together as a family by doing the activities on our Family BINGO! Together you can play and read your way to a prize for your first BINGO and for a Blackout.

Special video performances will be posted here and on Facebook on June 17 & 18 at 10 AM, 2 PM, and 7 PM. Different shows including science and magic will be shown on the two days. These events are sponsored by the Friends of the Jackson County Libraries.

Zoo Man's Attractions

Zooman

MEET THE ANIMALS!

Zooman will be on Facebook live on June 24 & 25 at 10 AM and 2 PM, so make sure to tune in and ask any questions you have about the animals! Then at 7 PM both days you can catch a special video to learn even more about these special animals and where they live. These videos will be on both Facebook and here on the website. These events are sponsored by Federated REA Operation Round-up.

Pint Size Polkas

MUSIC & MAGIC FROM POLKA KINGDOM!

Special video performances will be posted on Facebook and here on the website on July 8 & 9 at 10 AM, 2 PM, & 7 PM. Get ready to dance along!

Craft Kits

This year we're providing craft kits for pickup at the library for children and adults. Call your library to request a craft kit every other week starting the week of June 8. Kits will be available for pickup the entire week at all three library locations. Only a limited number of kits are available, so make sure to call in and reserve yours!

Tween & Teen Events

These events are completely free to attend for tweens and teens. Tweens are those entering 5th-7th grades. Teens are those entering 8th-12th grades.

Bad Art Challenge

This event is funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

How it works

Make the best bad art that you can! For this fun event, tweens and teens can pickup a Bad Art Kit at any of the three libraries from June 8-12. The Bad Art Kits will have a canvas and art supplies that you can use to create your masterpiece. You can also supplement the supplies with any you have at home. Call your library to reserve your kit and schedule a time to pick it up. Submit a photo of your artwork by June 19 to the library. Virtual voting will take place from June 23-30 and prizes will be awarded to the top three Bad Art pieces. Vote here!

Robots

This event is sponsored by Prairielands.

How it works

Pick up a kit and build your very own robot! Kits will be available for pickup from July 13-17 at all three libraries. Call ahead to reserve yours and schedule a time to pick it up. Then build and show off your robot to others at a virtual meetup on July 23! Tweens will meetup at 2 PM and teens at 4 PM. Join the virtual meetup here!

Photo Scavenger Hunt

How it works

Take photos to complete the scavenger hunt then share what you found with others virtually! The scavenger hunt begins on July 1 and photos are due back in on July 9. On July 9, we will meet up virtually to share photos and stories. Completed scavenger hunts will be put in for prize drawings. A paper copy is available for curbside pickup or you can download it starting July 1. 

The virtual meetup will be on Google Meets on Thursday, July 9. Tweens will meetup at 2 PM and Teens will meetup at 4 PM. To log in to the meeting, go to meet.google.com, click on Join or Start a Meeting and use the code: ecw-sfxk-rvu

Lego Challenge

Use your imagination and build new creations with your legos! A new lego challenge will be posted every Monday on the library Facebook pages. Share back pictures of your finished creations!

I Spy with My Little Eye

Stop by each library and try to find all the items in the I Spy with My Little Eye displays in the library windows! Displays will be out July 6-10 and August 3-7.

Story Strolls

Enjoy being outside and read a story all at the same time! Story Strolls will have pages from entire children's picture books posted in Jackson, Lakefield, and Heron Lake for families to read as they walk together. Each community will have different stories, so you can travel to all three to enjoy even more books!

Locations: Ashley Park in Jackson, the windows of downtown business in Lakefield, and at City Park in Heron Lake.

Available: June 15-19, June 29-July 3, July 13-17, July 27-31, and August 10-14. 

Bedtime Storyhour

Watch in your pajamas! Stories, songs and fun for toddlers through early elementary children. Watch on the library Facebook pages at 7 PM on June 4, July 16, and August 13.

Family Scavenger Hunt

Work together as a family to complete the scavenger hunt. Submit your completed scavenger hunt to be entered into a prize drawing. A paper copy of the scavenger hunt will be available for pickup at all three libraries. It is also available to download here.

The scavenger hunt starts on July 20 and completed scavenger hunts need to be submitted by 5 PM on July 24 to be entered into the drawing.

Doug Ohman: Journey Down the Mississippi

Join Doug Ohman as he travels down the Mississippi. Part 1 of the journey will be available starting on June 10, Part 2 on July 15, and Part 3 on August 12. All three videos will also be posted on the library Facebook pages on the same days at 1 PM. Enjoy!
