2021 Winter Reading Program
We want you to warm up with a good book and join our 2021 Winter Reading Program brought to you by the Plum Creek Library System and the Jackson County Library System! The winter reading program for Adults and Teens runs from January 1 through March 31, 2021 and is designed to encourage pleasure reading during the cold and snowy time of year. You may register starting on December 30.
This winter, our program is to set your own personal reading goal of how many books you would like to challenge yourself to read in three months. A minimum of 3 books must be read. When you reach your goal you earn a prize of a mug or a giant chocolate candy bar (only one prize per person). You will also be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card to be given away at each of the Jackson County Libraries for the adult and teen programs.
The program is open to everyone from eighth grade through adults. All book formats (audio, ebooks, graphic novels, regular and large print) qualify for the Adult and Teen (Grades 8-12) Winter Reading Program and they do not have to be library books, though we would love to help find you something to read!
To register online, complete the registration form below or call your library. The reading logs are available in paper form for a Curbside Pick-Up or to download here. For a completely paperless option, you can submit each book you read in the reading log form below.
When you have reached your reading goal, contact the library that you are registered with and make arrangements to collect your prize. Have fun and happy reading!

Spring & Fall Event Series
All three libraries host events for adults to attend in both the Spring and the Fall. Due to COVID-19, the Fall 2020 series of events will take place virtually. They will be premiered on our Facebook pages at 1 PM on Wednesdays starting with our first event on October 28. They will also be available to watch on our website for a period of time. If you do not have access to the Internet, you can call the library and request to watch the program on a library device. Most events last approximately an hour. For more information about what we have coming up see our Adult Program page.
All three Jackson County Library System locations host book clubs for adults. In Jackson, one book club meets on the third Monday of the month at 1:30 PM in the library meeting room. The evening book group meets on the third Thursday at 7:00 PM in the library meeting room. In Lakefield, the afternoon book club meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 3:00 PM. The evening book club meets the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 PM. Both clubs meet in the Lakefield Library meeting room. In Heron Lake, the book club meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 2:00 PM in the library meeting room. Everyone is welcome to join any of the book clubs!
Summer Reading Program
The Jackson County Library System has many programs all throughout the summer, and now adults can participate too! Adults can sign up for a BINGO card to read for prizes all summer long, earning a prize for a single BINGO and a blackout. Previous prizes have been king size chocolate bars and tote bags. We also have a family BINGO that can be done with everyone in the family to promote literacy and family fun during the summer months.
Want to volunteer at the library? The libraries occasionally have volunteer opportunities available. Watch this section for our current opportunities.
Winter Reading Program
The Jackson County Library System runs a fun Winter Reading Program for adults from January 1st to March 31st. The theme for 2020 is "Snow is Falling, Books are Calling." It is free and easy for all adults to participate by signing up at any of the three locations. Every book read or listened to during the program can be used as an entry in the weekly and grand prize drawings. You just have to read one book for a chance to win!
Lakefield Movie Fridays
The Lakefield Library hosts a movie day for adults the third Friday of every month starting at 1:00 PM. The movie is shown in the library meeting room on the big screen and free popcorn is provided. This event is completely free to attend. For more information on what is showing this month, check out our calendar.
Every month the Jackson County Library System puts out a monthly newsletter highlighting events and services for the month. You can pick one up at any of the libraries, see it on all three libraries' Facebook pages, or download it here.
